Description
From a simple chapel, between 1730 and 1764, the Brotherhood of St. Rocco, detached from the Church of the Brotherhood of Jesus, devoted to San Rocco, built his church following the plague epidemics, and in several time it was doubled and finally, they added also the choir.
It has a Baroque style, with its polygonal facade, in exposed cotto, divided into two overlapping sections marked by pilasters alternating with geometric motifs; the capitals of the pilgrims, form a simple decorative motif that embellishes with little expense. The set of cornices and slopes continues along the north wall, creating an austere and elegant balance that places the visitor in the inner peace. The marcapian band is dominated centrally by a large arch overhanged by a niche, characterized by the typical baroque Juvarriana inspired shell that frames the statue of San Rocco. The entrance door is in carved wood, divided into eight molds decorated with reliefs from the sinuous lines typical of the Rococò and embellished by the tympanum with broken lines that recall the eye to the dedication above "DIVI ROCHO PLANITIENSES MDCCCLXXIX" ("The Pianezza’s inhabitants to San Rocco 1879 "which is the date of restoration).
In the lateral body, other typical elements of the 18th century can be identified: the wall bill, organized by a bunch of irregularly laid stones, likely coming from the Dora Riparia, alternating with a single row of bricks, for a greater stability of the set , and the “cimasa”, top curvilinear decorative element that supports the gutter. The bell tower is square-shaped and in 1999 the bells were reactivated and electronically programmed, playing the hours and calling to gather the faithful for the functions of the parish church.
The church with its homonymous fraternity worked until the 1950s. Desacrated was used for exhibitions, conventions, concerts ... until September 27th , 2008 when "Barrocco" was inaugurated, a place for community entertainment, especially young people.
Inside there was the wooden chorus of the '700, a golden frame with the San Rocco’s, San Sebastiano and Madonna (today in the parish) canvas and the organ "Concone" built in 1851.
